4 Tips for Preparing an Open House
Randi has done many open houses throughout her career. Here are some tips she is sharing to help you prepare for your home's open house:
1. Declutter
You must declutter every nook and cranny. Buyers will open closets, kitchen cabinets, and pantries to check size and space. Creating a clean, spacious look will be very appealing to potential buyers.
2. Clean, clean, clean!
Everyone likes a spotlessly clean and well looked after home. This will help buyers visualize themselves in your home. Power wash your home's exterior, the driveway, clean your chandeliers, and make sure it looks clean and has a fresh smell. There are also little things you can add to spruce-up your home's appearance, such as a new front doormat or fluffy towels in the bathrooms. If available, consider lighting your fireplace on a chilly day or removing the grill cover and opening up the patio umbrella on a sunny day. Turn on all of your lights, open all of the window blinds, and make sure your home looks inviting.
3. Remove all valuables.
When preparing for an open house it is important to remove all valuables. This includes money, jewelry, paper documents and prescription drugs. Store them in a safe place, such as a neighbor's house or your car. Theft is rare at an open house but it is better to be safe than sorry.
4. Be Elsewhere.
On the day of the open house, make sure you and your pets are not present. Buyers will be more comfortable if they can look around and speak to the agent freely. Randi and Tracy will work around your schedule and do the open house at a time that is convenient for you.
